Speed and Simplicity: Supporting CIWF’s Mission to End Factory Farming

The background:

In 1967, Peter Roberts - a British farmer deeply concerned by the rise of intensive factory farming - founded Compassion in World Farming (CIWF) with his wife Anna. What began as a back‑room protest grew into a global movement, achieving lasting advancements in farmed animal welfare.

Today, CIWF participates in key decision‑making forums such as the United Nations and the World Trade Organisation, campaigning peacefully to end factory farming and build sustainable food systems that benefit animals, people, and the planet.

CIWF offers supporters many ways to give - from single donations to regular contributions, lotteries, and gifts in Wills.   Cymba first started working with them back in 2014 on a simple but effective car‑sticker campaign and more recently on a ‘text to donate’ cash appeal.

“Steve was exceptionally helpful and adaptable while supporting us with the setup and fast turnaround of our ‘text to donate’ campaign. He responded swiftly with clear recommendations for the supporter mobile journey and provided reporting templates that enabled our CRM team to match gifts against donor records quickly and easily.”

Michelle Crouch, Head of UK Fundraising, CIWF

The project:

For charities, staying connected with supporters isn’t just about sending updates - it’s about nurturing relationships and making every interaction feel simple and meaningful. Today, that often means reaching people through the channels they use most, like email and SMS, and ensuring the experience is smooth from start to finish.

Supporters want to feel valued, not redirected or burdened with extra steps. That’s why creating a journey that keeps everything within the mobile experience is so powerful - it removes friction, builds trust, and makes giving feel effortless.

“We were delighted to re-engage with CIWF on this text‑to‑donate campaign. By helping them achieve their goal, we highlighted the power of our solutions - fast, flexible, and designed to make supporter engagement seamless.”

Steve Mathieson, Product Lead, CYMBA

The result:

For CIWF, the immediate priority was the ability to launch a new text‑to‑donate campaign quickly and effortlessly, enabling them to reach supporters in their mission to end factory farming.

Alongside this, they had a longer‑term requirement for a secure way to collect supporter consent forms directly within the donation journey.  This would ensure a smooth, mobile‑first experience with full GDPR compliance.

The campaign demonstrated just how fast and simple it is to build a campaign that feels effortless and engaging. The ease of use of our solutions played a key role in delivering a positive experience for everyone involved, with speed and simplicity at the heart of the outcome.

We also had the opportunity to showcase the power of Cymba Pages, our configurable microsite solution. This allowed us to create reusable templates for future use that can securely collect supporter consent forms within the donation flow, while maintaining a seamless mobile experience and full compliance - all without compromising engagement.
